TV Project Reflection

Creating a relevant piece that connects meaningless junk normally found on TV into something, proved to be a challenge. Given pre-made footage from television, not creating footage like I am used to, the editing process took on a different approach than normal. We first had to watch all of the given footage, in our case a television edition of Jaws, and figure out what correlation, if any, we could make out of it. In the half an hour of recording, countless commercials paired with an edited version of the film, we figured out ways we could connect they two totally different genres. However, in almost every commercial break was an ad for a community college or some sort of job corps information. We decided to have those speaking about their wonderful careers gained from ITT tech, paired with careers seen in jaws producing a humorous result. In doing so, creating a message that degrees gained from junior college aren’t always what they seem. One minute, an ambitious forty-year-old graphic designer. The next, shark hunting!

Overall, I would say that given more time in the computer lab to complete this, I believe that we could have fixed some errors and given ourselves more time to become reacquainted with final cut pro than we had been. Yet, this project was fun and gave us an opportunity to make an uninteresting thirty-minute airing of Jaws to be unbelievably entertaining! Who knew hunting a ruthless shark in murky waters would be a career of choice gained from a community college. I just want a job!
